Vintage 1920s ceramic collectable ‘Mr Pig’ piggy bank or money box, by Ellgreave, rare with money slot on shoulder
An fantastic example of a vintage ceramic 'Mr Pig’ money box in the larger of two sizes. This version has the money slot on his left shoulder (rather than on his back) as per the earlier versions of one of England’s most famous money box designs.
‘Mr Pig’ money boxes were made in England by the Ellgreave Pottery Co in the 1920s. Ellgreave's main production was in teapots and quality domestic earthenware, but they also made figurines, tableware, vases and money boxes.
