9 Ways to Use Sunshine Yellow in Your Children's Room

(Find our 'Shop the Look' at the end of the post!)

Ok, we're calling it – summer has arrived! (Read: we've had a single day of warm weather here in the UK and put our trousers into storage till October). Whatever the weather where you are, these joyful, sunny rooms won't fail to bring a warm glow to your day!

If you're looking for bright and bold with a big splash of sunshine yellow for your little person's room, read on.

At the end of the post you'll find direct links to our edit of vintage and folk art treasures for yellow rooms: featuring warm mustards, golden naturals and gorgeous contrasting pinks and greens!

Interior designer Laura Stephens uses colour with a gently muted sophistication that lasts little ones into their teens. This delicious sorbet palette is set off to perfection with a @tara_allison_ 'Big Top' canopy. Gorgeous @studiocathynordstrom and @evieandskye_tinytots cushions set the tone for layers of textiles in contrasting scale, pattern and colour, with @colefaxandfowler enveloping the walls and a fab @pookylights shade on the bedside.

Homeware designer Matilda Goad has embraced the characterful eaves of her daughter's room with floor-to-ceiling wallpaper  a densely printed design by Josef Frank dotted with magical flora and fauna. The golden tones of the print are referenced boldly through the quilt (swipe to pic two!) and more subtly in the vintage rattan furniture, and then balanced out beautifully by the dusty blue of the woodwork. Accessories include Matilda's own fabulous ceramic lamp, scalloped shade and rug, and a glorious @studiohumbug striped bolster cushion on the bed.

Interior designer Emma Shone-Sanders has created the most serene bedroom in a pinky-neutral with dollops of ochre yellow through the @projektityyny canopy and quilt, the @alicepalmerco striped shade and the hand-painted picture frames by @all_the__things. The @alicepalmerco valance and cushion bring a subtle pink contrast and bags of snuggly texture.

Wallpaper and fabric designer Molly Mahon shows how yellow works as a base for almost anything, enveloping her daughter’s room in her own joyful hand-block-printed Fern wallpaper in Mustard. The headboard and valance are dressed in Molly's Luna in Khaki and the glorious bobbin bedside is from @turnerpocock for @chelseatextiles.

Here is another ray of sunshine by Laura Stephens. A sumptuous mustard yellow fabric by @romo_fabrics cosies up the iron bed frame through a feminine suspended headboard and valance and is referenced in the snippets of yellow of the @projektityyny patched quilt. Dusty rose pink provides a grownup grounding colour in the @zarahome rug and wallpaper and just the right amount of vintage blue balances the colour palette in the faux bamboo lamp and in the artwork.

Interior designer Natasha Howard created this magical attic room for her very first clients, transforming nine bedsits into a fabulous family home, topped with a room fit for a princess! The delicate wall lights are from @pookylights and the rattan shades by @soanebritain. The creeping floral wallpaper is by @cole_and_son_wallpapers and the cafe curtain is crafted from a swathe of antique lace.

This is one side of the stunning 'Sister Suite' that Dana Dore of @adoredhouse created for her two daughters. Dressed in William Morris Compton wallpaper in summer yellow it is timeless but fun and allows antique and contemporary details to sing in harmony.

Artful homewares designer and author Brittany Jepsen of @houselarsbuilt has created the most joyful space for her son. The pièce de résistance is the yellow alcove bed  family-size for all the snuggles! You can just see the @rebelwalls mural peeking out from behind the check curtain. The yellow is a perfect base to marry with the antique furniture and natural rattan blinds, and is balanced with a beautiful green-blue to the woodwork.

This glorious room by interior designer Nicki Bamford-Bowes looks like it's popped straight out of a storybook! The Irregular Square wallpaper by @belartestudio sets a playful scene for sorbet-pastel accessories, a natural-wood desk and shelves and @valsparpaintuk’s ‘Healthy, Wealthy and Wise’ on the woodwork. I've got my eye on that brilliant Kit-Cat clock...!
